Eight Tyrone Area High School students are preparing for the PMEA Region III Chorus Festival scheduled for March 26-29.
The event will be hosted by Central Cambria School District, Ebensburg.
Pennsylvania Music Educators Region III consists of PMEA District Four and Six of over 50 area high schools. The top 10 and 12 of each district (respectively) then qualify for the PMEA Region III Chorus.
At Wednesday’s audition, if these students place within the top four chairs they then advance to the PMEA All-State Chorus to be held in April in Hershey.
This year’s Regional Chorus will be conducted by Dr. Philip Silvey of the University of Maryland. Dr. Silvey was formerly from Alexandria, PA.
Music of many styles and time periods will be featured. There will be a concert on Saturday, March 29 at 11 a.m., and the public is invited to attend.
Tyrone Area High School will be sending eight students: Soprano II: Sofia Revolorio; Alto I: Laura Thompson and Cristina Rodriguez; Tenor I: Derik Cruz and Garrett Ray; Tenor II: Ken Nearhoof and R.J. Beck and Bass II: Jonathan Harris.
The Tyrone Area High School Music Director is Mrs. Catherine Young.
