For the past 15 years, Tyrone has been celebrating a day for the community and the annual picnic is a way of showing the town the TACP Committee’s appreciation for the hard work and dedication they have to keep this town running.
On August 1, 2008, Tyrone Community Day will take place at DelGrosso’s Amusement Park, once again. With free ride and slide passes for the students of 2007-08 school year, kids will be able to have an entire day of fun in the sun without having to pay a dime.
The day is broken down into six different categories and is primarily based around the students. For a 10 a.m. shotgun start, the Joshua House will host the Champion Mini-Golf Tournament where students from Kindergarten through twelfth grade may compete for prizes with the lowest scores. There are three different grade groups for the tournament: K to 5; 6 to 8 and 9 to 12.
Around 10:30 a.m., all students from Kindergarten through the 2008 graduating class will receive a free ride and slide pass for the day at the main ticket plaza-adjacent to Murf’s patio. This will be available until 6 p.m. and there are plenty to go around.
At 2 p.m., there will be children’s games at the center of the park where a hula hoop contest and smelly sneaker contest will be the primary events. All children are invited to compete for prizes, so don’t miss out on the fun!
From 4 to 6 p.m., there will be an All-Class Reunion held at Pavilion No. 2 where everyone may bring their yearbooks and catch up with old friends. Everyone is asked to attend this if already a graduate of Tyrone and should bring their senior yearbook to this session before the chicken barbecue.
From 5 until 6:30 p.m., a chicken barbecue dinner will be served in the pavilion area. Tickets for this dinner are available at the Tyrone Chamber of Commerce or any other local businesses in Tyrone. If residents who attend choose not to buy advanced tickets and want to wait until August 1, the dinner will be on a first come, first serve basis. Those who are attending are asked to buy tickets in advance so that they have a good number on how much to make (tickets go on sale July 7, 2008).
Who thinks they can sing, dance, make people laugh or have a hidden talent that is unusually fantastic? Enter the Tyrone Talent Search at 6 p.m. which will be held at the stage in the back of the park across from the pavilions. Anyone may enter and there will be five divisions consisting: Preschool through fourth grade; fifth through eighth grade; ninth through 12th grade; adult through  39 and 40 and over. (Groups: 3 or more)
This event isn’t something to pass on as there will be prize money for each division for the top three spots. First place will be $100; second place will be $75 and third place will be $50 for each division. Don’t miss out on an opportunity to win some crazy cash while having a great day at DelGrosso’s Amusement Park.
At the conclusion of the talent search, the Tyrone Community Raffle will take place as several donated door prizes will be raffled off and given to anyone who has some raffle tickets. If anyone wants to donate a door prize, please have items submitted to the Tyrone Municipal Building or the Tyrone Area Chamber of Commerce. The items will be displayed as soon as they are turned in and may be turned in from July 2 through the 25.
This year’s Tyrone Community Day picnic looks to be better than ever! Don’t miss out on all the events and shows that will take place throughout the day and be sure to grab an event brochure before the day starts so everyone knows what is going on for the day.
