The Tyrone junior varsity started the season slowly, dropping their first three ballgames. The Golden Eagles have warmed up as the season goes on, however. On Monday night at Philipsburg, the Eagle JayVees munched Philipsburg-Osceola 40-0 for their highest scoring total of the season, their third win by shutout, and their fourth straight win to jump up over the .500 mark at 4-3.
Zach Burke was the Eagle in the lead, rushing for game-best 187 yards and scoring the first two touchdowns of the game, for Tyrone. The Orange and Black jumped out in front and took command, with a pair of touchdowns in each of the first two quarters for a 27-0 lead at the halftime intermission, Then the Golden Eagles added one in the third and another final TD in the fourth quarter.
Nick Patton raced 37 yards for a touchdown, and Stevie Franco scored on a one-yard keeper in the second quarter. Cody Smith tallied from nine yards out in the third stanza, and Kyle Ripka added a four-yard scamper for a touchdown, in the final quarter.
Ripka also booted four successful extra points.
Tyrone (4-3) will journey to Lewistown on Monday, to play the Panthers junior varsity, with a 5 p.m. start time.
