Estelle L. (Moran) Yoder, age 79, of 723 MIfflin Street, Huntingdon, PA, passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at 5 a.m. at the J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon.
Mrs. Yoder was born August 19, 1928 in Cleveland, OH, a daughter of the late John P. and Elizabeth (Gagermeier) Moran.
She married Arnold I. Yoder on October 23, 1958 in Winchester, VA. Her marriage was later blessed in the Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Huntingdon, by Msgr. Francis Ackerson. Mr. Yoder preceded her in death on December 25, 1991.
She is survived by three sons: Thomas A. Yoder of Huntingdon, PA; Michael P. Yoder, and his companion, Brenda Biancone of Huntingdon, PA; John P. Yoder, and his wife, Leslie (Johnson) Yoder of Toledo, WA.
Also surviving are three grandchildren: Arnold, Stephanie, and Dalton Yoder, all of Toledo, WA. She is survived by two sisters and one brother: Mary Jane Moran-Myers of Huntingdon, PA; Rosanne T. Moran of Huntingdon, PA; and Thomas M. Moran, and his wife, Marlene of Huntingdon, PA.
She was preceded in death by a brother and sister: John P. Moran and Eileen E. Zook.
Mrs. Yoder attended Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Societies. She was also a member of the Catholic Girl Scouts of the Altoona Area.
She attended the William Smith Elementary School, Huntingdon, and the One Room School on Cold Springs Road, Huntingdon, and was a member of the Huntingdon High School Class of 1946.
Mrs. Yoder was primarily a homemaker. During the late 1940s and early 1950s she was employed by Bell Telephone in Philadelphia, PA, first as an operator and later as supervisor. From 1983 to 1992 she was co-owner of Mister Donut in Huntingdon.
Prior to her death, she was the caregiver for Msgr. Francis Ackerson, for whom she cared about dearly. She enjoyed working crossword and word find puzzles, gardening, reading, and spending time with her sisters.
She also enjoyed old movies and following the lives and careers of the classic Hollywood movie stars of the 1940s and 50s. Her greatest joy in life was her children and family, and she loved her cat Simon.
Services are under the direction of the John B. Brown Funeral Home, Inc., 417 Washington St., Huntingdon, PA 16652.
Friends may call from 6 until 9 p.m. on Sunday, April 20, 2008 at the John B. Brown Funeral Home. A vigil will begin at 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 20 at the funeral home.
A funeral mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, April 21, 2008 at the Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Sixth and Washington Streets, Huntingdon, PA. The Reverend Father David J. Arseneault will be officiating.
Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Huntingdon, PA.
