| Food bank donation Yesterday, volunteers from Angel Food Ministries met with Tyrone Food Bank representative LeVonne Angelo to present a check for $800. The money was received when Angel Food Ministries received $1 for each unit of food sold during its monthly distributions. Angel Food Ministries, an organization dedicated to providing high-quality food to those in need, has just expanded their meal offerings to include a specialty Christmas box which includes everything needed for a traditional holiday celebration.
Each Christmas dinner box contains enough food for six to seven people and will be distributed in time for the holidays. The cost is $35 per box.
This special order must be made Thursday, December 4 between 3 and 6 p.m. at St. Matthew Church. Orders may also be dropped off or mailed by Saturday, December 6. Cash and money orders are accepted, no personal checks. Access Card orders must be made in person.
The distribution day will be held Saturday, December 13 at 9:30 a.m.
Earlier this year, St. Matthew Church began hosting Angel Food Ministries, with the help of several other area churches.
Based in Georgia, Angel Food Ministries is a non-profit, non-denominational organization dedicated to providing grocery relief and financial support to communities throughout the United States.
Many people struggle each month to stretch their grocery budget, and area churches hope this program can provide some relief for area residents.
Angel Food is “restaurant grade” meat, frozen vegetables, fruits, dairy products and more, which are acquired through involvement with only the best producers/vendors of high quality name brand foods. It never includes “seconds” or “day old” products. Monthly specials are also offered and there is even a box geared towards the nutritional needs of senior citizens.
Each month, order forms including the menu are made available through area churches for those who wish to purchase food that month.
Today, Angel Food Ministries serves hundreds of thousands of families across 37 states and the District of Columbia. The organization also helps the local host site with direct donations in proportion with the number of units distributed from that site. Since 1994, over $14 million has been donated by to host sites throughout the country.
In Tyrone, Angel Food Ministries gives back a donation of $1 per unit sold. This helps to offset any expenses associated with running the program.
The Tyrone program has been blessed with resources through its volunteers and because of that, is able to make a monetary donation to another area organization, the Tyrone Food Bank.
