Yesterday, the town came alive for the parade and ceremony to honor the local National Guard units being deployed today for training and then to Kuwait and Baghdad.
Tyrone Mayor James Kilmartin spoke at Gray-Veterans Field during the ceremony and read the following proclamation:
“On behalf of the Borough of Tyrone, Hereby Proudly Proclaims September 24th, 2008 as Detachment One, Charlie Company, Second Battalion, 112th Infantry Regiment Day
“Whereas: Tyrone’s first Sheridan Calvary Troop originated in 1871 has been serving our Country courageously since its inception; and
“Whereas: The 112th Infantry Regiment will be going into harm’s way utilizing the latest and most modern Army vehicle, the ‘Stryker’, a state of the art combat vehicle; and
“Whereas: Their outstanding service performed in the defense of freedom’s cause in time of conflict is a noble expression of citizenship; and
“Whereas: It is vital that we pay tribute to these soldiers who will sacrifice daily for the freedoms of others and have demonstrated their pride in service and their profound faith in the principles on which the United States is founded; and
“Whereas: Today, your sacrifice, as brave soldiers should be an inspiration to all service men and women fighting the war on terrorism;
“Now Therefore: I, James R. Kilmartin, Mayor and President of Borough Council of the Borough of Tyrone, PA, by the power vested in me, do hereby proclaim that September 24th, 2008 shall be Detachment One, Charlie Company, Second Battalion, 112th Infantry Regiment Day in the Borough of Tyrone. And, I further proclaim, in my official capacity as Mayor, that all citizens of the Borough of Tyrone take due notice of this honorable occasion.
“‘God Bless America and Those Who Defend Our Freedom’
“In testimony whereof and given under my hand and the great seal of the Borough of Tyrone to be affixed this 24th day of September in the year of our Lord, 2008.”
