Check for updated information about the library, its books,
programs, and special events in this
column appearing bi-weekly on Thursdays in The Daily Herald.

This fall the library is taking steps to improve and increase computer and internet services to the public. Thanks to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation’s Opportunity Online Hardware Grant and matching funds donated by the Tyrone Rotary Club, by the end of the year the library will have three new computers in the public computer lab as well as a printer that prints in full color and new printers for the children’s computers. The new computers in the children’s section were purchased with donations made by the 2007 Park Avenue Playground Children.
In addition to new computers and printers, by the end of the year we will have free wireless internet service available in the library. The Board of Trustees and staff are excited to offer this service to people in the Tyrone-Snyder area and visitors alike. The Board of Trustees and staff thank all donors for their generous contributions that have made these technological improvements possible. Stay tuned for further details on when wireless access debuts at the library.
Starting this week, the library is kicking off two separate game nights in the community room featuring the Nintendo Wii. Thursdays from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. will be Family Game Night in the library’s community room. Game Night is open to anyone and everyone, but children under ten must be accompanied by an adult. There will be a separate Wii Day for seniors. The first two will be in the community room on Saturday, October 25 and November 8 from 10 a.m. until noon. This is a great chance for people who don’t have a Nintendo Wii at home to try one out. We have a variety of games available and staff and volunteers will be on hand to assist Wii novices.
Other library news: we will be holding a used book sale starting November 1 at 10 a.m. and running through the following week during regular operating hours. We are also holding a Christmas Gift Basket Raffle. Tickets for the basket are $1 each, and the final drawing will be on December 18 – just in time for the holidays. Finally, on November 22 we will be holding our annual fall charm sale with “R” We Charming Italian Charms. The charm sale will be in the community room from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.
That’s the news from the library – we hope to see you soon!
