The Tyrone VFW Teener All-Stars pushed across a run in the bottom of the seventh inning on Wednesday to take a hard-fought 4-3 win over the Clearfield Teeners in a game played at Ferner Field.
David Miller doubled to begin the uprising, Brandon Maceno beat out an infield single and Brice Mertiff doubled in the winning run.
Clearfield tallied single runs in the top of the first, second and fourth innings.
Brice Mertiff tossed the opening three innings for Tyrone, striking out five and walking just one. Brandon Maceno finished up on the hill for the final four innings, striking out four with one walk to pick up the victory. Dearing threw a good game for Clearfield going the distance to take the tough-luck loss, striking out two and walking two.
Maceno walked in the first and Brice Mertiff doubled. Both scored on sacrifice flies to take a short-lived 2-1 lead. Tyrone scored a run in the third to slip out to a 3-2 lead. Mertiff walked and was pushed around the bases to score on basehits by Brinten Mingle and Clint Wilson.
Hall led Clearfield, who actually outhit Tyrone 9-8, with four hits in four at bats and Pollick added two more for six of the teams nine hits. Hall and Pollick each had a double
Tyrone has one game left prior to the District playoffs on Sunday at Punxsutawney.
