Prior to the Martin Oil-Team Ontario NABF Regional Tournament game Thursday evening at Vets Field, the George B. Kelley Federation 2002 awards were presented.
Martin Oil received trophies for the regular season championship and another for wining the Kelley playoffs. Troy Beaver and Jordan Taylor accepted the trophies for Martin Oil manager Ed Davis and the team. On hand to receive the awards from Beaver and Taylor was Altoona mayor and CEO of Martin Oil, Thomas Martin.
Adam Plummer was a double recipient being honored with the George B. Kelley MVP Award and sharing the Pitcher of the Year Award with Altoona First pitcher Eric Bridenbaugh. This marks the third straight year a Martin Oil player has been named MVP following Dave Miller’s back-to-back MVP awards in 2000 and 2001.
Plummer batted .443 during the season with eight home runs, 19 runs, two doubles, three triples and 41 RBIs and then belted two more homers with eight RBIs and seven runs scored in the playoffs.
On the mound, Adam was 3-1 during the regular season pitching 33 and 2/3 innings, allowing 28 hits, striking out 38 and walking 20 with a team-best ERA of 1,66.
