Shawn Garrett ripped a grand slam in the seventh inning, and Justin Reid allowed a run over seven frames as the Altoona Curve beat the Harrisburg Senators 6-1 Friday.
The Curve broke open the game in the seventh against reliever Ron Chiavacci. Shaun Skrehot and Kevin Sefcik singled, and Carlos Rivera reached on first baseman Glenn Davis’ error to load the bases.
Garrett then smacked Chiavacci’s first pitch over the wall in right for his first grand slam of the season.
Reid gave up a run in the first as Luis Figueroa doubled, took third on a wild pitch and scored on Scott Hodges’ sacrifice fly. The Altoona hurler worked out of a no-out, bases loaded jam in the second and another threat in the fourth to keep the his team down just 1-0.
Reid (10-6) allowed six hits with two strikeouts and one walk and retired the final 10 batters he faced.
