The Blair County Commissioners acted on a number of items at their regular monthly meeting yesterday morning. All commissioners were present for the meeting at the Blair County Courthouse.
The first order of business was the hiring of three employees, a records clerk for the County’s prison and a environmental services aide and nurse aide for the Valley View Home.
The commissioners approved signing an Act 26 Community Transportation Capital Equipment Grant Agreement in the amount of $114,660 for Blair Senior Services. Two new vehicles are slated to be purchased and the Commissioners also approved BSS to submit an application for the state’s Rural Transportation Program for Persons with Disabilties — Expansion Project. The program, offered through PennDOT, was a pilot project tested in eight counties and is now open for more participants.
Other actions:
• Also approved was an application for a Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency grant for the County’s Juvenile Offenders Services for the year 2003. The amount of the grant is $36,410.
• The Commissioners authorized a renewal of a contract with Family Services of Blair County in the amount not to exceed $2,190,964. FSBC works with the mentally retarded in Blair County.
• A Continuation Sub-Grant Award for the Victim/Witness program in the amount of $57,251 was authorized. The grant is through the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency.
• The County entered into an agreement with the commonwealth’s Department of Agriculture to ensure uniformity of weights and measures on behalf of the department. The agreement runs through June 30, 2007.
• A bid was accepted for a new hot water heater at the Blair County Prison. T&T Boiler was the low bidder at $21,750. The bid includes the removal and disposal of the existing heater.
• The County is seeking bids for waste disposal services for County buildings and three decontamination tents, as well as six Level A, HAZMAT suits. The tents and suits are utilized by the Blair County HAZMAT Team. The suits already owned by the County need replaced and the new suits will cost approximately $1,900 each. Level A, HAZMAT suits afford the highest level of protection and fully encapsulate the wearer.
The next meeting of the Blair County Commissioners — who are John Eichelberger, John Ebersole and Donna Gority — will be Tuesday, August 27 at 10 a.m. in the basement of the Blair County Courthouse.
