“Let’s Dream Together” is the theme for the exciting 19th season of live theater productions to be staged by The Tyrone Community Players.
The season commences with the world premiere of an original musical extravaganza adapted and composed by Tyrone native, William A. Jones. The creator of “A CHRISTMAS CAROLED” has now turned his talent to the re-telling of the classic tale of Robin Hood in his version entitled, “SHERWOOD.” This tale, complete with lilting, beautiful music, witty dialogue, and familiar characters, is under the direction of veteran Linda Strong.
“SHERWOOD” will be produced in the auditorium of the Tyrone High School with members of TCP’s crews mentoring the students in the school district interested in the technical aspects of a live theater production. Dates for the presentation of “SHERWOOD” are November 8 and 9, 2002.
Sandwiched in the center of the season is the classic comedy/drama, “STEEL MAGNOLIAS.” Under the tutelage of director Jonathan O’Harrow, seen on the TCP stage as Captain Hook in the 2002 production of “PETER PAN”,
“STEEL MAGNOLIAS” recounts a tale of strength and devotion between six ladies of the south. It is being presented as a Valentine’s Day gift on February 14 and 15, 2003, in the historic theater housed in the Tyrone YMCA.
The last presentation of TCP’s season is a dinner theater venue in the Citizens Social Hall. “ALWAYS, PATSY CLINE,” directed by Ed Kuhstos, has been secured for this season, and she and her country band will burst onto the stage in Tyrone on August 8and 9, 2003. The story of Patsy’s life and music is told from the vantage point of her number one fan, Louise, and by the use of her still-popular-today vocals. “ALWAYS, PATSY CLINE,” is a guaranteed crowd pleaser that will send you away with your toes tapping and a song in your heart.
The Tyrone Community Players rely, almost entirely, on the generous support of their patrons to continue live theater productions in the community. The cost of producing a play has escalated greatly in the past several years, but TCP has resisted the temptation to increase ticket prices or subscriber costs, enabling anyone who wants to see a show that opportunity. In conjunction with royalty costs, which can be as much as $1200.00 a week for “ALWAYS, PATSY CLINE,” as an example, The Tyrone Community Players maintain a lease for the theater in the Tyrone YMCA, and provide the YMCA with $1 from each ticket sold. These costs, as well as set construction, costuming, lighting, sound, make-up, set painting, and a myriad of other technical expenses, are funded by the beneficence of this community.

In addition to the main-stage theater gems being offered by The Tyrone Community Players this season, they will be presenting an original children’s play, written by TCP veteran Donna Derdel, entitled “The Bakers Revenge.” TCP will also be a participant in the Pennsylvania State Theater Festival where they will be competing with the one act drama, “Tell Me Another Story, Sing Me A Song.”
