Indian Valley acted the rude host on Thursday handing the Tyrone Girls Junior High basketball squad a 40-38 loss.
Tiffany Bradford and Sharon Long fronted a spirited effort from the Lady Eagles with 10 points each. Long also contributed five rebounds and Stefani Bryan added eight points and five rebounds.
The Tyrone junior high girls were down 11-2 in the first quarter after getting off to a horrendous start, but battled back to take a slim lead in the fourth quarter.
Indian Valley however, retook the lead for good with just half a minute to play to. Tyrone falls to 2-5 on the season.
“The ninth grade team has always played good defense and never quits,” said coach Kerry Naylor. “Now the girls are starting to realize how to execute a game plan-how to run an offense. They are good shooters and always have had good attitudes, but now they are becoming comfortable with our plan on offense. They are coming together as a team.”
The seventh/eighth grade girls team improved their mark to 5-1-1 with a 20-17 win over Indian Valley.
Stefani Bryan scored 11 points and pulled down six rebounds and Elizabeth Tepsic had a career day with six points, six rebounds and five steals to lead the younger girls to the victory.
“These girls never pay any attention to the name or reputation of then team they play,” said coach Naylor .“It is impossible to intimidate these girls. They just keep going, just go out and play their best.”
