The Tyrone Lady Eagles tennis team traveled to face Bishop Guilfoyle at the Mansion Park courts in a Central Counties Tennis League match on Wednesday and came home on the short end of a 6-1 score. Bishop Guilfoyle’s five senior starters were honored on Senior Day.
The doubles team of Beth nelson and Emily Fitzgerald won their match 9-7 in a nailbiter after The Lady Marauders had taken the five singles matches and one doubles match.
“Obviously, BG had strength and experience on their side and yet Hilary and Becky Swann were excellent in their matches today,” said Tyrone coach Charles Fitzgerald. “Hilary McNelis was actually ahead in her match 4-1 and Becky Swann almost pulled off the upset win. Again, a great day for Becky, who is a very promising player for Tyrone. Beth Nelson and Emily Fitzgerald are now 5-2 in doubles matches for the season.”
Tyrone will be at districts today before a three-match away schedule, next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday to end the season.
