The Tyrone Cross Country teams hosted a tri-match on Tuesday against Bishop Guilfoyle and Philipsburg-Osceola. This was the final home match for the senior boys and girls.
Tyrone dropped matches to Bishop Guilfoyle 24-31 and Philipsburg-Osceola 23-32.
Tyrone junior Jimmy Gehret was the first runner to cross the finish line on Tuesday, the second straight match, Gehret has had that honor. Gehret finished in a time of 19:33 followed by Bishop Guilfoyle’s Jesse Manglcarne in 20:04 and BG’s Kalin McDonnell in 20:10. Philpsburg-Osceola’s two top runners came in next, Matt Bush in 20:12 and Rick Frank in 20:21.
Trevor Harbst was next in line with a time of 20:38. Doug Brown finished 12th, Dane McCloskey 14th, Nick Barndt (15th and Eric Sweet, 16th.
“I think the cooler weather helped,” said Tyrone coach Tammy Snyder. “I was very pleased with all the guys. Every one of them improved their time, and not just by a second or two, but by minutes. They all ran great races!”
In the girls race, BG dominated with the first four girls across the finish line, including Sonja Hinish who finished first in a time of 20:46. That time would have placed seventh in the boys race just 25 seconds out of fifth place.
Rebecca Mogle led the Tyrone girls with a time of 24:12 finishing in sixth place overall, Angel Diehl 10th, Emily Ingle 11th and Adeena Harbst 17th.
The Tyrone girls dropped matches to Bishop Guilfoyle 16-41 and Philipsburg-Osceola 23-36 down to just five girls with everybody’s time counting on Tuesday.
“Our girls are running consistent,” said coach Snyder, “with one girl out because of illness. That really hurt us today. But Rebecca ran a very good race as did Angel, Emily and Adeena. This was Angel Diehl’s and Michelle Long’s last home meet (also Doug Brown and Trevor Harbst). We’ll miss them next year. They are not only great kids, but also great athletes and it has been wonderful being able to coach them.”
