The Tyrone Girls Volleyball team traveled to Flinton on Tuesday evening to batle the Glendale girls.
The Lady Eagles dropped the opening game of the best-of-three set 11-15, then came roaring back with two straight very solid wins, 15-5, 15-1, to decisively beat the Lady Vikings.
Brittany Wilson led Tyrone with 12 service points. Lauren Haag had nine kills and Amber DelBaggio had 20 assists.
Ashley O’Shell led Glendale with seven service points and Amanda Shomo had 14 kills.
“We struggled with our serve during the first game and that caused us to use all of our substitutions,” said Tyrone coach Dave Eckberg, “so we had girls playing defense who normally don’t have to do that. I was proud of the girls because they didn’t panic after dropping the first game. They started to play they way I know they can play and they got the job done. Lauren has really stepped it up lately; she really had an impact last night.”
The Tyrone junior varsity defeated Glendale two games to one, 6-15, 15-12, 15-12.
With the win, the Lady Eagles climb to 15-3 and host Mount Union tonight in the final match of the season. Junior varsity action will begin at 6 p.m. in the Tyrone Area Elementary gym. Eight seniors who are playing their final match will be recognized during the break and then the varsity will play the Mount Union girls.
Seniors Lindsey Bailey, Ashley Carper, Amber DelBaggio, Lauren Haag, Loriel Herist, Barbara Holmes, Mindy Rudy, Kristen Schleiden, Joanna Turner and Brittany Wilson will be honored.
