Bellwood-Antis closed out their junior high football season on Thursday by hosting Moshannon Valley.
Josh Kleinfelter led the offensive attack with a pair of touchdowns. Kleinfelter ran for a 29-yard score from scrimmage and returned a punt 70 yards for another TD.
The Little Blue Devils, who finished 6-2-1 for head coach Charlie Burch, lit up the scoreboard early with 20 first-quarter points. The Blue Devils scored three times on the first three plays they ran from scrimmage. Although the middle TD was nulified on a penalty, B-A regouped and scored two plays later anyway. With four minutes still left in the eight-minute first quarter, the Blue Devils had scored 20 points.
“Everything went right for us early,” siad B-A coach Charlie Burch. “We probably could have scored 35 points by halftime if we had stayed on the ground, but we wanted to give our passing game some experience.”
Dustin Harris tallied on a 35-yard run to open the scoring for B-A and Kleinfelter tossed a two-point conversion pass to Dan Kovac. Kleinfelter went 29 yards for the second score and Troy Brunner took a 38-yard TD pass from Kyle Drost to close out the first-period scoring.
Kleinfelter added his long punt return in the fourth quarter to put the Blue Devils up 26-0.
Moshannon Valley then scored their lone touchdown on the following kickoff, which Murarick ran back 70 yards and Gimrick rushed for the 2-pt. PAT.
“We dominated on defense,”said coach Burch, “ only giving up the one TD on a kickoff. Special teams did a super job for us tonight. This was a good ending to what ended up a good season. We started out only 1-1 after our first two games and then really came on. I am very happy with this team after suffering through a losing season last year. I am really looking forward with huge expections for next year. Our eighth grade team finished 7-0 for the first time ever. Our goal is higher than just six wins we got this year.”
