This column is a hard one to write! With yesterday’s drug bust a lot of what we have built at The Daily Herald was tossed in several different directions. I will always thank and praise Kris Yaniello for the excellent work and writing that he brought to our newspaper, helping us to improve our local coverage. We’ve come a long way since this summer and Kris was a very important part of that. However with details that I received yesterday I could no longer at this time keep him employed at the paper. I will pray for him daily and hope that he puts this in the past and move forward in a positive direction with his life. I will miss him very much.
What a tough day! Stranded at home due to the winter storm and dealing with multiple problems. It was very frustrating. At this point I want to salute again the Blair County Drug Task Force and the Tyrone Police Department on the excellent work they continue to do with the ongoing heroin problem in this community. I believe the problem continues to grow and that heroin is as easy to get in Tyrone as candy. Until the people involved are punished including jail time they will continue to hit the streets using and selling this terrible addictive drug.
Yesterday’s snow totals were more than anyone expected. It has always amazed me how a weather person on television can be wrong so much of the time but still keep their jobs. Parts of the greater Tyrone area received as much as eight inches of snow. So while I’m writing this I understand that the amounts that we received were greater then expected. So here we go! Who plows the snow in this town? Well whoever it was needs some training because they did a horrible job. The roads in Tyrone this morning were the worst that I drove in during my one hour and forty five minute commute today.
I love the new Christmas star lights in downtown Tyrone. Great thinking on all of those involved on how to produce these to fit on the new lamp posts in downtown Tyrone. This being my first time in the area during the holiday season I’ve never seen what the community looks like dressed for the season. I’m also impressed with Mayor Stoner’s decorating ideas. We at The Herald will do our best to decorate the new windows of our new offices next week.
It’s moving day! Starting today, tomorrow and Monday all the old newspapers, files, computers, and paper clips will make their way across Pennsylvania Avenue to our new address. We are excited and again invite you to stop in next week to say hi. Our phone, fax and e-mail information and numbers remain the same. The only thing more fun than moving in cold weather and snow is moving in the rain. We’ll get in done but my back won’t like it.
I look forward to next Thursday’s postponed Tyrone Christmas parade. It was the right call to postpone that after yesterdays snowfall. Hopefully the piled up snow on the sidewalks will be melted or gone before next week.
Because of recent issues involving the paper I will be staying longer then expected. I will keep you posted as we continue to move forward at The Daily Herald. even with our recent setbacks. Have a great weekend and thanks for reading!
