• Ten candidates file petitions for three Snyder Township Supervisors positions. On the Democratic side, Jim Daughenbaugh, George Hewitt, Lloyd Patton, Ray Rogers and Pete Spanelli. On the Republican ticket are Charlie Diehl, Bob Nelson, Jesse Ray, Tom Sherry and Bernie Sherwin.
• Tyrone schools establish groundwork for Renaissance Education. Dr. Hampton Casebolt of the NC Renaissance Foundation met with students, faculty, parents and business leaders.
• The Daily Herald announces a redesign of the paper. Some of the changes included larger typesetting, the news and notes column and the return of Herald History.
• The top-seeded Golden Eagles knocked off by Lewistown in the District VI AAA semifinals.
• Four Golden Eagles and two Blue Devils prepare for the Regional Tournament. Tony Montanaro 119, Comanche Garcia 135, Terry Hyde 145, Todd Snyder 152, Dave Houser 189 and Rob Campbell Heavyweight are all preparing for the tournament at Clarion University.

• Officials push for the completion of US Route 220. Area leaders were pushing for the completion of the highway from Jaggard Street in Altoona to Grazierville.
• YMCA Finance and Membership Committee chairman Paul Schroder announced the goal for the organization fund drive. The non-profit organization hoped to raise $23,000.
• Albert Fleck, 32 was taken into custody after a search of his home uncovered nearly a half pound of marijuana and various smoking devices. The Bust occurred because the parents of a 14-year old TAHS student, who was caught selling weed at school tipped off police that Fleck was his supplier.
• Six Golden Eagles and two Blue Devils prepare for the PIAA Class AA Northwest regional Tournament. Bruce Wallace and Tom Lannen won Regional titles and Tyrone was the team champ.

• Tyrone Hospital received a $354,309 Federal grant from the Public Health Service. Work on the hospital is scheduled to resume in May.
• The Citizens Fire Company celebrated their 65th Anniversary with 70 in attendance at a Baked Ham Dinner.
• Three Tyrone juveniles were placed in the Blair County Detention facility for their roles in burglaries.
ª Sixty attend the Civil Defense Police School at Tyrone Area High School.
• George Czap was hired by the Tyrone Area School Board as a teacher-coach.
• VFW leads Westvaco in the American Division Bowling Standings at West End Lanes.
• Johnny Valentine and Great Scott headline a Pro Wrestling card at the Jaffa Mosque.

• Fire destroys a home occupied by William Shea and owned by Fred Langenbacher in Snyder Township. The insurance claim was $400.
• A beautiful big butterfly perched on the lawn at the F. A. Harris home which gives encouragement that spring isn’t far away.
