Bellwood-Antis opened its softball season at Bellwood on Tuesday with a 6-1 loss to Hollidaysburg.
The Lady Blue Devils broke open a scoreless tie with a single tally in the third inning with B-A catcher Charlie Burns singling and scoring on an error.
Hollidaysburg broke through with four runs in the top of the fourth to break up Kali Schreckengost’s shutout bid and hung on for the win.
“We didn’t play too badly for our first game,” said B-A softball coach John Hammond. “We played well in the field, but we just couldn’t get our bats going. We have to get hits when we have runners on base.”
The Bellwood-Antis bats were able to get to Hollidaysburg starter Kristine Brown for six hits, but could manage just the one run.
Schreckengost started for the Lady Blue Devils and took the loss, striking out three and walking three and Danielle Gardner came in relief to strike out one and walk one.
Bellwood-Antis will face defending state champion Penns Valley at Bellwood on Thursday
