Bellwood-Antis fell behind 12-0 after two weight classes against Claysburg-Kimmel on Feb. 12, 1985. Claysburg also scored 12 more team points in the last two weight classes that evening, but Bellwood-Antis controlled the middle outscoring the Bulldogs 33-9 to climb into a 33-33 draw at the end of the match.
Ara Aposhian put the Blue Devils on the board at 112, with a 9-2 decision. Aposhian led just 4-2 after two periods, but got some breathing room with a reversal, penalty point and nearfall in the third period.
At 126, Butch Decker received a forfeit to cut the Claysburg margin to 15-9 and Bob Noye (138), Adam Claar (145) and Dave Claar (155) all picked up forfeits as well to give Bellwood-Antis a 27-21 lead for the first time.
At 167, Rich Davensizer gave the Blue Devils a very critical six team points with the only B-A pin of the dual. Davisizer jumped all over his opponent with two takedowns, an escape and two sets of nearfalls for a 10-2 lead after one period. In the second period, Davensizer picked up a penalty point, escape and takedown and then pinned his foe at the 3:46 mark to give B-A and coach Darrell Claar a 33-21 advantage.
Claysburg won the final two weight classes to end the dual in a 33-33 tie, in the days before tiebreakers were used.
Tussey Mountain pinned Bellwood-Antis at heavyweight on Feb. 10, 1989 to win a 36-32 dual meet at Saxton.
Steve Cherry won by major decision at 112 to cut the Titans lead to 6-4 after Tussey picked up a forfeit to open the match. Cherry started slowly with a 2-0 lead after the first period, heated it up a bit with an escape and takedown in the second stanza and with a 5-0 advantage, turned it on with a reversal and three nearfalls in the third to win 14-0.
At 130, Shant Aposhian took a slim 5-4 lead into the third period, where he escaped and took his man down before working for the pin in 5:32. Frank Dixon was moved up from 135, creating a no match there, to 140, where he won a major decision. Dixon registered a takedown for all the scoring in the first period, added a penalty point and three back points in the middle stanza and used a third-period reversal to extend the victory to four team points with the 8-0 victory.
John Vincent built up a 9-3 lead with a reversal and two nearfalls in the first period and a takedown in the second after giving up the initial points on a takedown. Vincent applied the pinning combination at the 2:16 for the quick fall at the beginning of the second period.
Chris Himes and his opponent at 189, rolled each other around in the first period, with Himes emerging with a 5-4 lead. Himes built that up to a 15-4 advantage after two periods with a takedown and three nearfalls and then reversed his man to his back for the fall in 4:14 of the third period for the final Bellwood-Antis points of the dual.
On Feb. 9, 2000, Bellwood-Antis walked off the mat with the Blue Devils first win of the season waxing Northern Cambria 40-18. The Blue Devils had come close several times during the earlier portion of the season and had actually outscored some opponents on the mat, only to lose because of forfeits given due to lack of warm bodies in the lineup.
Bellwod-Antis (1-11) began by accepting three forfeits from the Colts, who are fielding a team for the first time. Thad Sprankle (112), Robbie Weiser (119) and Mark Hanna (125) picked up the freebies after neither team was able to put a 103-pounder on the mat.
At 135, freshman Dan Himes found himself on the bottom after his foe recorded a takedown. Himes reversed and put his opponent on his back, first for three back points and then for the pin in 1:46.
Duane Ehredt registered a pair of takedowns, received a penalty point and added two sets of nearfall points for a 12-0 advantage, before pinning his man with six seconds to go in the opening period at 145.
Roger Hamer was leading 9-0 at 171, when a skirmish erupted. In the ensuing disqualification, Hamer was D-Qed and Bellwood-Antis lost two team points. Hamer opened with a takedown and four-point nearfall when the referee stoped the match for an injury after he had already counted out a five-count on the Northern Cambria wrestler.
The Miller twins closed out the dual for coach Jim Torsell.
Dave Miller played takedown grinding out three before adding a three-point nearfall, penalty point ane getting the pin in 3:39 at 189. Chris Miller made it three pina in as many matches for the B-A heavyweight. Chris traded five-point moves in the first period with his foe. In the second stanza, Critter began on the bottom, reversed his foe to his back, wrapped up a cradle and applied the fall at the 2:54 mark.
