The Tyrone Area Swim teams each added a victory on Senior Night to finish the regular season on Monday night. The TAHS boys squad topped Richland 107-59 to extend their record to 10-2, while the Lady Eagles bested Richland 93-75 to end their season with a modest two meet win streak for only the second time this season and up their overall mark to 4-8. The seniors were recognized and head coach Rich Bishop gave the first official notice that this was his final dual meet. Bishop is retiring after 21 seasons as Tyrone’s head swim coach.
Eric Nulton was the only individual double winner with victories in the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly. Brian Pearson won the 500 freestyle, Brian McManigal won the 100 backstroke, Evan Stover took the 100 freestyle and David Collins placed first in the 100 breaststroke. On Senior Night, seniors McManigal and Collins won their specialties and joined classmates Trevor Harbst and Adam Smith on the winning 200 medley relay team. McManigal was a member of the 200 freestyle with Teddy Feller, Nulton and Stover. Collins joined fellow senior Vinnie Fontana plus Stover and Nulton on the winning 400 freestyle relay. Fontana collected a pair of thirds in the 100 butterfly and 50 freestyle and Harbst added a second in the 100 breaststroke and third in the 200 IM.
Jeri Harper and Katie Frye collected two wins each for the Lady Eagles. Harper won the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle, while Frye was tops in the 200 IM and 100 freestyle. Both girls were also on the winning 200 medley relay aong with teammates Emily Albright and Zoe Yeaton and joined Leah Cherry and Angel Diehl on the winning 200 freestyle relay.
Albright, a senior was a member of two relays which finished first and also took the 100 breaststroke as well to finish out her career as a Lady Eagle in the home pool. Diehl, who is also a senior won the 50 freestyle and was a member of the 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle relay teams which won and added a second in the 100 butterfly. Zoe Yeaton won the 100 butterfly.
With the dual meet season concluded, the Tyrone Area swim teams will get ready for the District Six meet, which will be held on March 1, at the State Collge High School pool and the State swimming and diving meet, which will be held two weeks later on March 15, at the Penn State Natatorium.
