Tyrone Kiwanis squared off against Bellwood Hoss\’s in Game I of the Area 4 VFW 13 & 14 year-old Playoff Championship last night at Ferner Field.
The starting pitcher for Kiwanis was Derrick Dasher in only his second outing on the mound this year. Garrett Lender, one of two primary pitchers for Hoss\’s took the hill for them.
For the first four innings of play, Dasher held the Hoss\’s team to one run and only three hits, while the Kiwanis team build a 10-1 lead.
In the top of the fifth inning, the Hoss\’s team made a comeback of sorts scoring four runs to make it 10-5.
But in the bottom of the inning, the Kiwanis team scored four additional runs to put them back ahead 14-5.
After that, the Hoss\’s team scored another run in the seventh inning to make the final score a 14-6 decision in favor of the Tyrone Kiwanis team.
Jeremy Miller led the offense for Kiwanis going 3-for-4 with a three-run homer, a triple and a double.
Jason Montgomery had two hits for Hoss\’s.
Dasher pitched five innings in total allowing five runs, while striking out five and earning his first victory on the mound this year! Caleb Snyder came in for relief in the top of the sixth inning and earned the save.
The Kiwanis team pounded out eight hits and took advantage of nine walks in Game I.
The two teams face off again tonight in Bellwood at 5:30 in this Best-Of-Three Championship Series. This is a must win situation for Bellwood Hoss\’s and an opportunity for Tyrone Kiwanis to bring home the Championship!
