After an extended illness, Dorothy Marie (Cherry) Pelter, 88, also known as Teenie, Dot and Marie, went home to be with her Savior and Lord on May 18, 2003. She was living with her son and daughter-in-law in McKeesport, and was formerly of Bellwood.
She was an 80-year member of the Logan’s Valley Baptist Church of Bellwood. In her younger years, she was an active member serving her Lord in in many areas of church life.
She was born December 26, 1914 and raised in Tipton, her mother Margaret Estelle (Leonard) Cherry died in 1961 and her father George Bishop Cherry died in 1976. She had one brother and three sisters, all deceased, Raymond Cherry and Mable Taylor of Tipton, Alma Campbell of Bellwood and Esther Walters of Spruce Creek.
Dorothy worked at the Tyrone 5&10 cent store in the 1930s and retired as a nurses aide from the Altoona Hospital where she worked on 7E from 1967-1977.
Dorothy married her beloved husband Marion J. Pelter in September 1936. He went home to be with the Lord in March 1982. She was the beloved mother of James R. Pelter of McKeesport and Jean M. Putt of Ridgefield, Ohio. She had seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She lived most of her life in Bellwood on N. 5th Street, N. 2nd Street and Bell Court. Mrs. Pelter enjoyed crocheting, gardening, gospel music and her family.
Friends will be received from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, 2003 at the Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Bellwood.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2003 at the funeral home with Pastor Dennis Handley officiating. Interment will be at Blair Memorial Park, Antis Township.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Logan’s Valley Baptist Church, Bellwood or the Bellwood-Antis Public Library.
