Has it sunk in yet? The great news that 170 jobs are coming back to Tyrone with the reopening of the paper mill.
I’ve heard many things over the past couple of days since the announcement and almost all of it was positive. The one concern was the hourly rates employees would receive if they worked at the new American Eagle Paper Mill. That was answered when numbers like $14 a hour was thrown out there. It has been such a great week with this announcement!
Team Ten LLC has one last hurdle before the machinery and employees begin to operate. I feel that things will go well with Tyrone Borough over a sewage issue and everyone will be happy in the end. Again, congratulations to everyone involved in putting this deal together. And I can’t wait to hear the sound of the whistle, because I’ve never heard it before.
With the announcement of the mill and the various groups working on securing the old Citizen’s Social Hall, it has just been so positive. How can anyone in Tyrone not feel that the future is a lot brighter then it was even 30 days ago?
One thing I’ve learned during my stay here the last year is that besides being very nice people, Tyrone people have a lot of pride. They are hard working, determined and follow through on most things they begin. That was certainly proven again this week with the mill deal being finalized. Oh and of course you love your football!
I also enjoyed seeing all the area media converge into Tyrone for the big announcement. I got to see, read and hear all of it. WTRN’s remote was classic hometown radio with the entire press conference broadcast live. I thank all of our readers for their patience as we held the presses to deliver all the details of the announcement. Why wait until the next day when we were able to deliver it to your home on Tuesday evening. I hope that you thought it was worth it.
The Altoona Curve will honor the Bellwood-Antis Blue Devils on July 10th at Blair County Ballpark. Like they did in 1999 with the state champion Golden Eagles football team, this is another class act by the best minor league team and operation in all of baseball. That’s just my opinion of course!
We enjoyed producing our “Salute to America” piece in today’s paper. Projects like this allow us to be creative and use color in many different ways. Thanks again to the local businesses who helped make it possible.
Another large crowd will gather for “Summer Thunder” fireworks extravaganza at DelGrosso Park tomorrow. Remember that you can’t park on Interstate 99.

I could write an entire column on my week at Creation in Hershey. It truly was a life-changing experience. It’s like having 75,000 of your closest friends all standing, worshipping God in one place. There were times standing in the sun and heat, that I announced we were leaving. But we survived and had a wonderful time. Let me just say that camping at Creation is truly roughing it.
