The Bellwood-Antis School District opened its doors to students this morning.
New superintendent Dr. Brian Toth was at Myers Elementary School welcoming the teachers and students on the first day.
“We have all the students in the high school and middle school and they’re coming into the elementary school right now,” said Toth. “We’re running smoothly so far.”
Toth replaced long-time superintendent Rodney Kuhns who retired following the 2002-03 school year.
“We have all of the faculty in place,” said Toth. “We finalized our staff on Friday. We want to get through the first day with very few problems. We want to get the kids re-acclimated to school and get them used to the fact that after lunch is not play time anymore.”
Toth is thankful for his smooth transition into his new position.
“I am very thankful that Dr. Kuhns stayed on an extra week,” said Toth. “The people here have welcomed me with open arms. I feel like I have been here forever and it has only been three weeks.”
Toth credits Myers Elementary School principal Terri Harpster for a smooth day at the elementary school.
“Terri had several orientation classes for the new students and new parents,” said Toth. “She and her staff have helped make it a tear free morning.”
Students in the Tyrone Area School District started the 2003-04 academic year on Monday.
