The Tyrone girls volleyball team traveled on Monday to Indian Valley.
In a tough, close battle the Indian Valley Lady Warriors turned back the Lady Eagles three games to two.
Tyrone jumped out in front with victories in the first two games 25-11 and 26-24. Then the Lady Warriors of Indian Valley turned the tide to win three straight 25-17, 27-25 and 15-7 to edge the Lady Eagles in what became a marathon contest.
Katie Whitby led the team with nine service points for the Lady Eagles. Stephanie Catich had three kills and Ashley Roth added three blocks for Tyrone which falls to 1-2 on the season.
“We had a two game-to-none lead and we were up 7 – 0 in game Three and then the wheels fell off,” said Tyrone coach Dave Eckberg. “That is the third time already this season that we have lost really strong leads. Until we get that worked out, we could be in for a long year.
“Indian Valley plays a kind of unorthodox style. They throw the second ball over a lot and we never adjusted. Our hitting percentage was probably in the negative last night.”
The Lady Eagles junior varsity also dropped a decison to the Indian Valley Jayvees losing two game to none.
Next up for the Lady Eagle volleyball squad is a home match against Bald eagle Area on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
