Tyrone recently had a guest from Nottingham, England.
Ivan Bexon, pictured at left, came by to spend the weekend with Pastor William Glunt of Tyrone. The thing that brought these two men together from opposite sides of the ocean was amateur radio, known to many as “ham” radio.
Ivan and Pastor Glunt first met on Sept. 28, 1985 through a chance encounter on the air. They agreed to talk again the following week and a friendship soon was formed. Since then the two men have been in close touch with each other and each other’s families. In 1988 Ivan and his wife Jean spent a couple weeks with Pastor Glunt’s family, at their former pastorate in Warren, PA. Ivan made the trip alone this time, due to his wife Jean recently losing her fight with cancer.
Pastor Glunt says Amateur Radio is a wonderful hobby because it serves the country through emergency communications, brings people together, promotes international goodwill, and builds lasting friendships. The local Amateur Radio Club provides help and exam sessions for those interested in ham radio. Pastor Glunt invites anyone to call him for information.
