Registered voters in northern Blair County are researching information, making decisions and preparing to cast their votes on November 4 for races ranging from Blair County Commissioner to Tyrone Borough Council.
While some races are set in stone with the exact number of candidates versus open seats, others will be determined by smaller margins.
The four-year term for Blair County Commissioner comes down to four people running for the three seats. Democratic Incumbent Donna Gority, along with Republican incumbent John Eichelberger face off against Joseph Claar and Barry Wright.
Closer to home in Antis Township, Dennis Himes of Altoona, Bob Walker of Tyrone and Sherman Scott Jr. of Bellwood are in the race for the one position as an Antis Township Supervisor, and its six-year term. Bellwood Borough has Democratic Incumbent John Gunsallus in place, with Kenneth Conrad to fill only two of the three positions on council.
The Bellwood Antis School District is set with Donna Tyler, David Worthing, Jeffrey Plummer, J. Kenneth Loucks and Rhonda Hocutt as the five candidates filling the five open board positions.
In Snyder Township, Joy Bickle of Tyrone and Charles Diehl, also of RD 3 Tyrone, face off for the one open position of supervisor. Meanwhile in Tyrone proper, the race for borough council will be the one to watch. And seven candidates vie for four positions to serve the residents of Tyrone for the next four years. Incumbents Jennifer Bryan, Sharon Dannaway, Jeffrey Watson Jr., and James Beckwith are looking to retain their seats against William Fink, Dan Meckes, and John Thomas.
In the Tyrone Area School District, six candidates are looking to fill only five positions and the seats’ four-year term. Incumbents Norman Huff, Peter Dutrow, Becky Emenhiser, Luther Laird and Lee Stover will try and retain their board seats against challenger Raymond Detwiler.
Polls on November 4 open a 7 a.m. In Pennsylvania, officials are hinting towards a light turnout in a non-presidential election year. However, voter turnout is expected to be higher in key races like Tyrone Borough Council.
