The Bellwood-Antis girls volleyball squad celebrated Senior Night on Wednesday evening before the varsity match at the Bellwood-Antis Senior High gym against archrival Bishop Guilfoyle. Lindsay Dearing, Ashley Edevane, Kristen Eaken, Casey Narehood, Heather Shura and Trista Sprankle were honored for their service to the team and school
In the varsity match, the Lady Blue Devils (16-1) defeated Bishop Guilfoyle three games to one to avenge their only loss of the season in dual play three games to one. BG had defeated the Bellwood-Antis girls three games to one on Sept 23 after the Lady Blue Devils had won their first six matches in a row. The win over the Lady Marauders gives B-A their 10th straight dual meet win.
Bellwood-Antis won the first two games 25-14 and 25-9 to take a commanding lead. If the Lady Marauders were to duplicate their win over B-A, they would have to win three games in a row.
The BG girls came back to win game three 25-19, but the Lady Blue Devils turned the lights out on any possible comeback with a 25-14 win in game four to nail down the triumph.
Lauren Carten, Elyse Schreckengost and Trista Sprankle all scored 10 service points for Bellwood-Antis to lead the parade. Lindsay Dearing added 34 assists, Stephanie Hatch led with 15 kills and 11 blocks, and Lauren Carter posted 13 kills, seven digs, and 13 blocks.
“Since BG gave us our only loss this season, we were ready and excited to play them on our home court,” said Bellwood-Antis coach Jennel Miller. “We came out strong, got the job done, and proved that tonight, we were the stronger team. I am so very proud of the girls’ accomplishments tonight and this season. We are eagerly looking forward to post-season play.”
The Lady Blue Devils Junior Varsity also avenged an earlier loss to the Bishop Guilfoyle Jayvees with wins in two straight games by scores of 25-12 and 25-18. Their record is now 15-2. Ashley Oswald led the B-A Junior Varsity with 16 service points.
The Bellwood-Antis volleyball team completes their regular season tonight by traveling to Tyrone. Junior Varsity action will begin at 6 p.m. The Tyrone seniors will be honored prior to the start of the varsity contest at approximately 7 p.m
