Last evening, the community recognized the Tyrone Area High School 2003 Homecoming Court at Gray-Veterans Field: freshman princess, Paige Stott; sophomore princess, Emily Lloyd; junior princess, Katie Whitby; senior princess, Kylie Wallace and homecoming queen Stephanie Catich.
The homecoming court escorts were: Eric Nulton, Tyler Rickards, Cody Jones, Cory Jones and Ted Feller. The Homecoming Court was crowned by the 2002 queen, Karrie Crabtree.
According to Tyrone Area High School Key Club Advisor Lucas Rhoades, this year, the homecoming court was chosen differently from past years.
Candidates were first nominated by school affiliated clubs, organizations and sports teams and placed on a ballot for initial voting by respective classes. From the voting procedure was selected a group of five candidates from each grade level in the senior high school.
Candidates then participated in two final competitions which included quarter-a-vote to raise money for local charities, and the personal interview in which candidates were interviewed by a panel of Tyrone teachers. Based on the scores compiled from each of these three categories, the homecoming court was determined.
Freshman princess Paige Stott was nominated by the girl’s softball team. Paige is the daughter of Susan and Arnie Stott. Besides softball, she also participates in cheerleading.
Sophomore princess Emily Lloyd was nominated by the National Honor Society. Emily is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Lloyd. Along with National Honor Society, Emily is also a member of volleyball, basketball, track and field and Key Club.
Junior princess Katie Whitby was nominated by Key Club, softball, track and field, volleyball, student council and National Honor Society. Katie is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Whitby. Katie is also an active member in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and SADD organizations.
Senior princess Kylie Wallace was nominated by girl’s basketball. Kylie is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Wallace. Kylie is also an active member of the senior high student council, secretary for HOSA, powder puff and a member of Health Tech.
Homecoming queen Stephanie Catich was nominated by volleyball, softball, POPS Extension and National Honor Society. Stephanie is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Steven Catich. She is an active member of POPS Extension, volleyball, softball and National Honor Society.
As homecoming queen, Stephanie has selected half of the money raised from the quarter-a-vote to be donated to the Tyrone Area Food Bank.
As Key Club Advisor, Rhoades would like to thank everyone who participated in the 2003 Homecoming, including all students, faculty and administration.
Also, this is a reminder that Key Club is sponsoring a blood drive at the Tyrone High School gym on October 15 from 10:30-4:30 p.m.
