The Bellwood-Antis girls volleyball team hosted Bishop Guilfoyle in District VI second round action on Thursday night.
The Bishop Guilfoyle girls gained a measure of revenge for a Lady Blue Devil beating administered last week during the final week of the regular season.
BG won in three straight games, 27-25, 25-14 and 30-28 in an action packed match in which the two squads battled past the normal first-to-25 points, but win-by-two games.
Senior Lindsay Dearing led the Lady Blue Devils with 10 service points and handed out 27 assists. Junior Stephanie Hatch had 14 kills and sophomore Lauren Carter added 13 kills. Hatch, Carter and senior Trista Sprankle each had six service points.
Bellwood-Antis (17-2 with both losses to Bishop Guilfoyle after the schools split two regular season matches) had received a bye through the first round, while Bishop Guilfoyle (12-6) defeated West Branch in three straight games to reach the second round. The win over the Lady Marauders last week was the B-A program’s first win ever over a Bishop Guilfoyle volleyball team.
BG will play Conemaugh Valley in the district semifinals on Saturday morning at the Altoona Fieldhouse at 9 a.m.
Bellwood-Antis recorded the best record for the Lady Blue Devils’ program, the number two seed was the highest in school history and B-A won the Mountain Athletic Conference Division III title with a perfect 12-0 mark in the MAC.
“There were so many positives this season,” said Bellwood-Antis coach Jennel Miller. “We did more than any Bellwood-Antis team before us. It was an absolutely excellent season.”
