Tyrone Police Department Assistant Chief Greg Ray suffered minor bumps, bruises and scratches yesterday after an encounter with a 15-year-old car thief.
“I should have used the cuffs on the girl instead of the boy,” said Ray.
According to Ray, the incident occurred at around 1:38 p.m. yesterday afternoon at the Tyrone Police station. He said he brought in a 17-year-old male and a 15-year-old female, both from the Pottstown area, who were accused of stealing a car.
He said he first handcuffed the young man and put him in the back seat of the cruiser. He said the girl then ran from him.
After a short foot pursuit, Ray caught the girl who resisted by kicking, scratching and punching at him, as well as yelling obscenities directed at him. He said after he got her under control, he brought her back to the station and once inside the lobby area, she became combative again.
Currently, both juveniles are being held by juvenile authorities and detention hearings on the case will be held tomorrow. Both individuals are being charged with receiving stolen property, and the juvenile female will also be charged with assault-related charges
