The Tyrone Golden Eagles Junior High Wrestling Team finished off a tough week of wrestling with a sixth place finish in the sixteen-team Huntingdon Tournament. Tyrone finished with 150 points, just four and 1/2 points from fourth place Huntingdon. Indian Valley (whom the Eagles had lost to earlier in the week), finished atop in the team standings, garnering 255 points.
Tyrone had two finalists in the tournament: Anthony Romano (95 pounds) dropped a 4-0 decision to Indian Valley’s Kyle Miller. Romano advanced to the finals with two falls in his previous two matches.
James Updike (155 pounds) lost by a fall in the second period to Sean Zimmerman of DuBois. Updike advanced to the finals with a quarterfinal overtime 3-1 decision and a third period fall in the semifinals.
Justin Schopp won five matches in the tournament on the day and finished in third place. Schopp won his consolation final match with a 10-0 major decision over Kendrick Trice of Huntingdon.
“All three of these kids wrestled well in the tournament,” said Coach Jason Bainey. “We knew coming in that it would be a tough day. But overall we were pleased with the results. There are a lot of things that we can build upon.”
