It was a scary moment for a grandmother who stopped at Sheetz in Tyrone yesterday morning.
Tyrone Borough Police Chief Joe Beachem told The Daily Herald that at about 7:30 a.m. yesterday morning, a grandmother and her grandchild stopped at Sheetz and when they were finished at the counter, the 5-year-old girl darted out of the store and into the grandmother’s van..
Beachem said the van began to drift, and when the grandmother ran out to try and stop the slow moving vehicle, she got pinned under the door of the vehicle.
“I’m sure it was truly a scary moment for her,” said Beachem. “She’s lucky she wasn’t hurt more than she was.”
Beachem said the woman, whose name wasn’t released to the media, was transported to Tyrone Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Beachem said the 5-year-old was not hurt.
“It really could have been a whole lot worse,” said Beachem.
He did say, however, the drifting van crashed into a safety pole at one of the gasoline pumps and caused minor damage.
