Tyrone Borough issued the following statement Tuesday regarding the health of Mayor Patricia Stoner.
“Tyrone Mayor Patricia Stoner is currently being treated in Altoona Hospital with an undisclosed diagnosis. Her condition is listed as stable. Mayor Stoner and her family greatly appreciate the concerns and prayers of the community and are grateful for their respect for her privacy at this time.”
The release indicated the statement was prepared and authorized by the mayor’s family.
Mayor Stoner was originally admitted to Tyrone Hospital last week according to a hospital spokesperson who indicated she had been transferred to Altoona Hospital. A spokesperson at Altoona Hospital confirmed her hospitalization there late last week.
J. R. Watson served in the mayor’s place at Monday night’s borough council meeting. Mayor Stoner is also council president under borough charter while Watson is the council vice president. He has been designated to chair council meetings in the mayor’s absence under the charter according to solicitor Larry Clapper. Watson was also designated to sign necessary papers at the meeting which required immediate action.
Mayor Stoner is currently serving her second term in office. She has held the position since the late 1990s.
