The Bellwood-Antis girls softball team gave up two big innings to the Glendale Lady Vikings and they resulted largely in the Vikings’ 12-9 win at Flinton on Thursday.
Hope Lucas drove in three runs and winning pitcher Megan Twigg added two RBIs to lead the Lady Vikings (1-3 overall, 1-2 in the MAC), who won their first game.
Becky Forney slammed a double and had one RBI for the Lady Blue Devils and Charlie Burns and Heather Detwiler each drove in three runs for the B-A girls. Kerstin Myers and Cassie Narehood each added one RBI.
The girls did a great job today,” said Lady Blue Devils’ coach Alex Sitman. It was nice to go seven innings. You see things unfold differently when you play seven innings. Our girls were fired up and ready to play. They played hard and had a good defense behind our two pitchers, Heather Detwiler and Chelsea Kephart, both of whom did good jobs on the mound. We put our bats on the ball and we had a chance to win the game. We got into a couple of situations, but overall played a good game. The girls have a great attitude and surely are not quitting.
“We are looking forward to playing Tyrone on Saturday. Tyrone is a very good team, playing up this year in a tougher division. We always look to Tyrone as a measuring stick to see where we are at. They have a great coach.”
