Imagine seeing alligators, monkeys, snakes, jungle cats and more right here in Tyrone.
Children and adults alike will have that opportunity tonight when the Tyrone Area High School auditorium will be transformed into a tropical rain forest.
Tickets will be available at the door and are $6 for adults and $3 for children. The show is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
Children will be able to interact with a few of these magnificent creatures during the show.
Touring under the name “Live on Stage, The Rain Forest”, it all started as a dream for founder and current director Mike Kohlrieser.
His father was a professional animal trainer who gave Mike an entire childhood of learning the profession. In the 1980s, Mike and his wife Marcia became aware of the problems in the tropical rain forests.
Using his already developed skills as an animal trainer and stage entertainer, Mike wanted to educate young and old alike about these animals facing possible extinction.
In 1992, the non-profit organization Understanding Wildlife, Inc., was created. The goal of the organization is to educate and inspire individuals to get involved and make this a better world for both humans and animals to live.
Understanding Wildlife travels from California to New York City with this incredible rain forest program.
Animal trainers will also make a presentation on Monday during the school day to all Tyrone Area Elementary students. They will explain how energy conservation and recycling will help save the beautiful animals the students are seeing and other ways humans can all help to save the rain forests.
