The seeds and first round opponents are out for the Tyrone and Bellwood-Antis baseball teams and the Tyrone softball team.
The Golden Eagle baseball team drew the 14th seed in the District VI-AA field and will play 17th seed Westmont-Hilltop in a play-in round at Tyrone on Tuesday, May 18. The winner of that matchup will then play Central, the third seed, in the first round on May 20, at Martinsburg. This game was originally to be played on Monday, but Tyrone Athletic Director Tony Yaniello has informed The Daily Herald the game has been moved back to Tuesday.
The Blue Devils, the number eight seed in the District VI-Single-A field will host the number nine seed, Claysburg-Kimmel on Thursday, May 20. During the season, Bellwood-Antis met Claysburg-Kimmel once as a result of being in different MAC divisions and won a hard-fought 5-4 victory in nine innings, when Chris Alley lined a shot past the Claysburg third baseman to drive in Matt Albright for the extra-inning win. The winner of this game will play at number one seed Northern Cambria on Monday, May 24.
The Tyrone Golden Eagles softball squad, 13th seeded in the District VI-AA field, will travel to fourth seed Philipsburg-Osceola for their first round contest on Thursday, May 20.
During the season Tyrone and the Lady Mounties split a pair of games with each winning at home. In mid-April, P-O prevailed 3-1 at Philipsburg. Then, on Monday, May 10, The Lady Eagles defeated Philipsburg-Osceola for the first time in the history of the Tyrone softball program, 1-0 with Missy Stager driving in the winning run and Hilary McNelis on the mound, making sure that one tally would be all the Tyrone girls would need. The winner of this game will meet the winner of the first round contest between Mount Union and Cambria Heights.
All first round and play-in games will begin at 4 p.m.
