Martin Oil improved their record to 9-12 on Saturday with a 13-9 triumph over Park Furniture in the late game at Vets Field.
“We really, really needed that one,” expressed Martin Oil manager Ed Davis. “Dustin Harris started off and pitched a pretty decent game. But we committed a few errors behind him and got us behind. Andy came on in the fourth and went the rest of the way, and only gave up two runs and I think they were both unearned. Brisbin has been doing such a super job since we started throwing him.”
Martin Oil opened the game with two runs in each of the first two innings, then concentrated eight more scores over the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to pull the game out after falling behind. 7-4.
Brisbin led off the game by being hit by a pitch and Ryan Kenawell singled him to third. Brisbin scored on a wild pitch and Kenawell worked his way around to score on a sacrifice fly from Matt Albright.
In the second, Brandon Beech and Dustin Harris walked with one out and Brisbin scored both runners with a single to left.
Kyle Drost lined a double to open the top of the fourth, stole third base and scored on wild pitch. Harris walked was sacrificed to second by Zach Tomchick and scored on Brisbin’s second straight base hit.
In the fifth, Albright singled, but was forced out on a fielder’s choice by Chris Alley. Drost drilled a triple to score Alley and came home when Beech doubled. Tomchick completed the inning with a single to get Beech to the plate.
Martin Oil finished up their scoring with three more in the sixth, highlighted by a triple by Harris. Albright singled and was replaced by courtesy runner Chris McDaniel, who stole second base and moved to third on an error. Alley got McDaniel home with a ground ball that was fumbled. Drost singled to score alley and Harris drove in Drost with his three-bagger.
Harris pitched the first three innings for Martin Oil, fanning one and walking two, allowing seven runs, four earned on seven hits. Brisbin picked up the win with four innings on the hill, yielding two runs, both unearned on three hits with one walk.
Chris Burlingame, Matt McNelis and Travis Gibons each had two hits for Park Furniture and Burlingame drove in three runs.
Andy also had a pretty good night at the plate with two-for-three and three RBI,” said Davis. “Matt Albright had a couple big hits again tonight. Kyle Drost really had a nice night going three-for-four, and finishing just a homer short of hitting for the cycle. Harris had a ice triple, Brandon Beech had a double and two runs scored, Zach Tomchick just came out for the team and had a hit and RBI. All the way down through the order, we got some key hits at key times. That’s what we have been missing all season.”
Martin Oil will play McMullen Furniture tonight at Bellwood. The first pitch is set for 6 p.m.
