Effective August 2, there will be a change in the Tuesday and Thursday operating hours at the Tyrone Senior Community Center.
Tuesday and Thursday hours will be changed from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to the new hours of 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. These changes are designed to improve operational efficiency, and to the greatest extent possible, eliminate consumers having to leave before closing due to transportation concerns.
So, mark the calendar with the effective date of change, August 2, and plan on attending the Center to take full advantage of the many activities and programs that are offered there.
With this change, the Tyrone Senior Community Center will open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. On some Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays, there are extended hours to accommodate scheduled programs.
Also, Blair Senior Services will host the eleventh annual SeniorFest on Friday, August 6 at Lakemont Park from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
SeniorFest 2004 will feature a traditional picnic lunch of barbecued chicken, games, prizes, dancing to Rich Hagens, and bingo. The event will be held in the park’s picnic pavilions, at the lower end of the park, near the train ride.
The paths around the pavilions are paved. An assortment of cold drinks will be available in the serving area throughout the day.
Don’t miss this chance to celebrate the accomplishments of older individuals, and to enjoy the fellowship of other older Blair County residents.
Parking is available in the parking garage that is located between the park’s entrance and Blair County Ball Park. Shuttles will be available to take guests from the parking area to the picnic pavilions. Van transportation will also be offered for those 60 years of age or over.
Tickets cost $2.50, and can be obtained at any Senior Center or at the Agency at 1320 Twelfth Avenue in Altoona. Tickets must be purchased by July 30.
Transportation reservations must be made no later than Tuesday, August 3.
