The second annual Mercedes Moment was hailed a great success by Home Nursing Agency.
The total proceeds garnered from the Mercedes Moment and Agency\’s summer party/auction was $38,000.
These funds will be allocated to the Home Nursing Agency’s hospice program, which provides compassionate care for people facing a life-limiting illness or injury in Blair, Bedford, Cambria, Centre, Huntingdon, Franklin and Fulton counties.
The community dollars raised from events like Mercedes Moment are reinvested right back into local communities and are targeted for the essential needs of in-home hospice care. These dollars also perpetuate the Agency’s steadfast mission of providing health care for anyone in need – regardless of their ability to pay.
M&T Bank served as a major corporate sponsor of the event followed by the generous support from Gettysburg Health Administrators, Inc., Home Health Resource, Kopp Drug, Ralph J. Albarano & Sons, Inc., and Preferred Healthcare System.
The highlight of the Agency\’s summer party/auction titled ‘A Celebration of Life’ was the Mercedes Moment with the 7 p.m. announcement of the Pennsylvania Lottery’s three-digit number. The Agency sold 1,000 tickets at $50 a piece and accrued a waiting list of names.
Bob Plazek of Gallitzin held the winning ticket number, 474, and won a Mercedes C320 Sedan. Plazek also won a year’s supply of Sheetz gasoline and a year’s worth of car washes from Johnny on the Spot.
Plazek, who was fishing at the time of the announcement, said he was once a patient of Home Nursing Agency.
“I was really pleased with the care that I received and didn\’t hesitate to buy a ticket. I was very surprised that I won,” said Plazek.
Sheetz, Inc. and Johnny on the Spot were among the 25 sponsors of the Home Nursing Agency’s summer party hosted by Barry and Marlene Halbritter at the Hemlock Estates, Laurel Lodge in Duncansville.
Robert Packer, President/CEO of the Home Nursing Agency, is extremely appreciative for the generosity exhibited on behalf of the Friends of the Foundation, who organized the event and for all the local businesses, restaurants and organizations that contributed their time and talent to ensure a successful event. Packer extends a heartfelt thank you to the sponsors for their continued support and dedication of Agency programs.
Irving Seltzer served as the honorary chairperson. Seltzer gained a new perspective of hospice after his wife of 54 years, the late Joan Seltzer, became a Home Nursing Agency hospice patient.
“From day one, ensuring Joan’s comfort was of utmost importance to her caregivers, which included Home Nursing Agency nurses and Home Health aides. By working collectively, they assessed all of Joan’s needs as well as the family’s requests. What surprised me was how the hospice team went a step further by making us part of their focus as well,” said Seltzer.
Home Nursing Agency is committed to keeping families together in their homes and communities.
