The Central Region of the American Cancer Society invites area cancer survivors and their family members to register for an upcoming survivors conference to be held August 28 at the Seven Springs Mountain Resort near Somerset.
The fifth annual Central Pennsylvania Region Cancer Survivors Conference has been planned to inform, educate and empower cancer survivors and their families.
Over eight million Americans alive today have a history of cancer. Through programs and events such as this conference, the American Cancer Society strives to provide information and support for cancer survivors and their families; the goal is to provide quality of life for all cancer survivors.
The Central PA Regional Cancer Survivors Conference will include seven survivor and professional lead workshops, a luncheon for participants, and a keynote presentation by Earth Rhythms.
Earth Rhythms focuses on community building, developing listening skills, new ways of communicating and using rhythm as a metaphor for building positive relationships. Participants will be provided with an opportunity to experience creative expression while in a supportive group setting. The program includes a guided global sound meditation to develop self-awareness and tools for integrating relaxation skills into everyday life.
Seven different workshops will also be offered at the conference. Topics include: eating well, surviving and thriving cancer, therapies and side effects, complimentary medicines, and workshops discussing the early detection, prevention, and treatment of colorectal, lymphoma, and lung cancer.
The program will be followed by a Monte Carlo themed reception where everyone will be celebrating survivorship and those who care for them.
This event is presented by the American Cancer Society, Pennsylvania Division, Central Region and made possible through the Relay for Life Community Investment Fund.
The registration fee is $20, which includes workshops, keynote session, door prizes, luncheon, and entrance to the Monte Carlo reception.
Discounted overnight accommodation have been reserved at Seven Springs Mountain Resort for those who wish to stay overnight. For more information, or to register, contact the Cambria Unit office of the American Cancer Society at 266-8744.
