Coach Mark Mitchell’s Tyrone Junior High Golden Eagles were well prepared for their rematch with the Penns Valley Rams Tuesday at the TAHS gym.
Having lost a three-point heartbreaker to them on the road back on December 17th, the Eagles wanted to show that they were a much better team at this point in the season.
Starting off strong in the first period, steady Chris McCaulley got the Little Eagles off on the right foot with two buckets, including one off an inside pass from Nathan Dane, to go up 8-2.
Tyrone again started the second quarter strong with two quick fast-break buckets from McCaulley, but midway through the period the Rams picked up their intensity as they scored five quick points to get within 12-7. Brandon Gehret responded with a bankshot in the lane, and went to the line shortly afterwards to make one of two free throws, to give Tyrone a 15-7 edge at halftime.
Returning to their normal third-quarter form, the Eagles dominated Penns Valley in the third quarter, going on a 15 point run and outscoring the Rams 16-2 to put the game out of reach at 31-9.
Jon Hampton scored seven points during that stretch with Josh Bradley adding five.
Tyrone’s substitute players got the balance of the time in the fourth as several more Eagles made it into the scoring column.
The final score was Tyrone 43, Penns Valley 20. The win was Tyrone’s seventh straight, and raised their season record to 8-2.
Tyrone’s next two games will be Wednesday at home against the Bellefonte Red Raiders, and Friday at Indian Valley.
