Mr. Earl Ray Smeltzer, age 87, of 509 W. 26th Street, Tyrone died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2005 at the Tyrone Hospital.
He was born May 5, 1917 in State College, the son of Joseph E. and Jenny Hoy Smelter and on July 26, 1939 at the Free Methodist Church in Mendon, VT was married by Reverend Sawyer to Anna A. Ohrtman who survives.
Also surviving is a brother, Russell E. Smeltzer, State College. He was preceded in death by a son, Louis R. Smeltzer on Dec. 31, 1992 and two brothers, Clyde M. and Richard Smeltzer, both of State College.
Mr. Smeltzer retired from Ward Trucking Co. in 1976 as an over-the-road truck driver after 34 years of service.
He was the recipient of numerous awards for safe driving and in 1973 he was awarded a plaque for having driven one-and-three-quarter million accident free miles.
He was of the Lutheran faith and was a life member of the Blazing Arrow Hook and Ladder Fire Company.
Funeral service for Earl Ray Smeltzer will be Thursday, Jan. 20, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home, Inc. with Reverend Norman E. Huff officiating. Interment will follow in Blair Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
