Tyrone Borough Police announced two arrests have been made in a Jan. 22 burglary at the Kwik-Fill on old Route 220, according a press release issued Friday afternoon.
Last Saturday at 11:40 p.m., the Tyrone police were dispatched to the Kwik-Fill for a burglar alarm at the storage building. Upon the officers’ arrival, a door was found to have been forced open. It was determined that 48 cartons of cigarettes were taken with a total value of $1,473.60. Chief Joseph Beachem said there were several leads in the case and an arrest was expected, according to a Jan. 25 press release.
That same day, 24-year-old Travis Lee Hammond of 423 Main Street, second floor, Tyrone and 22-year-old Jeremy Scott Carper of RD #1 were both arrested and charged with criminal conspiracy, theft by unlawful taking or disposition, receiving stolen property, criminal trespass, criminal mischief and burglary. Hammond was taken into custody first and Carper was arrested later on Tuesday.
Hammond was arraigned before Magisterial Judge Fred Miller and bailwas set at $25,000 (10 percent). Carper was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Pat Jones with bail set at $10,000 (10 percent). Both suspects were placed in the Blair County Jail in lieu of bail.
In Friday’s press release, Chief Beachem said other arrests are expected.
Also, earlier this week, borough police were dispatched to the same Kwik-Fill location for an armed robbery that had just occurred.
The robbery incident happened on Monday night, shortly after 9:30.
Police said a white male, approximately five feet, 10 inches, with a stocky build, wearing an orange ski mask and gray and maroon ski coat had entered the store brandishing what appeared to be a firearm.
The actor ordered the clerk to give him “all the money”. The actor then struck the clerk on the top of his head with the handgun which broke into several pieces. The clerk sustained head injuries which required medical attention.
The handgun in question was found to be a BB gun. The pieces of the BB gun were collected and are being processed as evidence. The actor fled south on foot on old Route 220 with an unknown amount of change. Officers later found the ski mask and coat along the road in Grazierville along with the rest of the BB gun.
The robbery investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information in the case is asked to call the Tyrone Police Department at 684-1365. Police have not indicated if the burglary and robbery cases are connected to each other.
