Randy Miles, Sr. of Miles Financial Services located in Tyrone is the recipient of the George Award.
The award is granted by the Blair County Chamber of Commerce and Allegheny Lutheran Social Ministries on an annual basis to recognize a Blair Countian who has improved the community through volunteer efforts.
Mr. Miles received the award in recognition of his leadership and volunteerism serving as Chairman of the Tyrone Hospital Development Council. He is also an active member of the Tyrone Rotary Club. The award was present at the Blair County Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Meeting held February 4th at the Casino at Lakemont.
The Tyrone Hospital Development Council consists of a small group of community volunteers who conduct fund raising events to increase awareness of Tyrone Hospital, and raise funds to purchase capital equipment for the facility.
Mr. Miles has provided leadership to the Development Council, as a volunteer, since its inception nearly five years ago. He has donated countless hours to Development Council fund raisers and has tirelessly promoted the Council and its events. He also provided leadership to develop annual fund raisers that have quickly become a tradition with both the Tyrone Hospital family and community. Fund raisers conducted by the Development Council each year include a golf tournament, two book fairs, hoagie sale, and a Tree of Light during the Christmas holiday season.
Judith Norris, President of the Tyrone Hospital Board of Directors said the accomplishments of Mr. Miles and the Development Council have benefited the residents of Northern Blair County and surrounding areas by helping to support and preserve healthcare at the local level.
Under Mr. Miles leadership, the total funds raised by the Tyrone Hospital Development Council to date exceed $56,000.00. Each year funds raised are used to purchase capital equipment that is needed by Tyrone Hospital. Items the Development Council has provided for the hospital include seven single channel intravenous pumps for the hospital’s medical surgical unit, and infant resuscitation beds and other equipment for the hospital’s obstetrics unit. In addition, the Development Council contributed funds to assist the hospital with the purchase and installation of a technically advanced hi-speed computerized tomography scanner (CT scanner) for the hospital’s radiology department. This year the council is purchasing eight new vital signs monitors for various departments at Tyrone Hospital.
Walter S. Van Dyke, CEO at Tyrone Hospital said the accomplishments of the Development Council speaks volumes about the comittment and enthusiasm of Mr. Miles and the other members of the Development Council.
“Mr. Miles is always reminding people that the Development Council is successful because of the support and generosity of individuals, businesses, and social & civic groups in the community.
“We are grateful for the ongoing support Tyrone Hospital receives from the Council and its supporters,” said Van Dyke.
