The Central PA Wolves Ice Hockey team was back in action for the first time in the new year on Monday against Derry at Galactic Ice.
Central PA improved their record to 4-2-3 (6-4-3 overall) for the regular season with a fast start and then held off Derry for a 5-3 win.
Craig Thompson (Spring Cove), who has been the leading scorer in the 2004-05 season scored a hat trick to lead the Wolves and junior high goal keeper Kody Martin Allegany County, MD), who stopped 14 of 17 shots on goal led Central PA .
Chris Carthew (Chestnut Ridge) opened the scoring for Central PA, which put four of the first five scores in the net in a busy opening period, on an assist from Issac Fink (Bald Eagle Area). Adam Erlichman (Bedford) followed a minute later on a assist from Jamin Solensky (Cambria Heights) for a 2-0 advantage.
Following a Derry score to cut the Wolves lead in half to 2-1, Thompson took over to insure the victory.
Thompson scored with two minutes left in the period off an assist by Gage Dunkle (Spring Cove) and then again with 45 seconds remaining with an assist by Carthew to give the Wolves a 4-1 lead.
After a scoreless middle period, Derry sandwiched a pair of goals around Thompson’s third goal of the game with an assist by Andy Shoop (Spring Cove) to set the final score.
The Central PA Varsity Wolves next regular league games are Thursday, January 13 at 8:10 p.m. vs. Indiana Blades at Galactic Ice, and Monday, January 17 at 8:40 p.m. vs. Hollidaysburg at Galactic Ice (Wolves are Home).
The Hollidaysburg game will be broadcast on WRTA radio.
