Tyrone Area High School student, Alicia Rodriguez, has been selected to perform in the 2005 All-Eastern Honors Choir.
The Music Educators National Conference (MENC) All-Eastern Honors Choir is comprised of the most musically talented high school students in the Eastern region of the United States. The MENC All-East Division consists of Connecticut, Washington D.C., Delaware, Maine, Maryland, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Vermont and Europe. All students selected must have participated in their home state’s All-State festivals.
The National Association of Secondary School Principals has placed this program on The NASSP National Advisory list of Contests and Activities for 2004-05.
These exceptional students will prepare remarkably challenging music that they will perform under the direction of Dr. Jerry Blackstone of the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Students will spend three days rehearsing and studying with this nationally prominent conductor during the Eastern Division Conference of MENC; the National Association for Music Education to be held in Baltimore, Maryland.
The 2005 All-Eastern Honors Choir will perform at the Baltimore Convention Center, in Baltimore, Maryland on Sunday, March 6.
Alicia now joins an elite group of Tyrone Area School District alumni who have qualified for this, the most prestigious musical ensemble available to high school students.
Past TASD participants were Leslie Ieraci (Boston), Matthew Lehner (Springfield, MA), JR Brinkman (Rochester), Brett Keith (NYC), Rick Ramsey (Baltimore), Eric Holmes (Baltimore) and David Bickle (Pittsburgh).
TAHS choral director Catherine Young will also be attending the MENC Eastern Division Conference for Music Education.
Young said, “Alicia is truly one of the hardest working, dedicated students that I have had the pleasure and privilege to instruct. She is totally committed to her music and demonstrates to her fellow students just what can be attained through hard work and dedication.”
Young added that Alicia is the only one out of three students from District 6 to have qualified for the Honors Choir.
