Mrs. Esther Rhoda K. Mason, age 93, a guest at Homewood Retirement Center, Martinsburg, Pa. died Monday, March 7, 2005 at 7:15 p.m. She was born November 11, 1911 in Wardensville, W.V., the daughter of John F. and Harriet Glenn Keckley. On January 16, 1937 at Frederick, Md. she was married to Franklyn L. Mason who died March 25, 1992. She is survived by one daughter, Mary Frances, wife of James Bigelow of Tyrone; three granddaughters: Michelle, wife of Craig Dutrow of Tyrone, Suzanne, wife of Michael Cherry of Tyrone and Patricia, wife of Tom Smeland of Ottsville; six great-grandchildren; two sisters: Nancy, wife of Paul Brill of Baker, W.V. and Rachel Poynton of Edgewater, Md. and one brother, Paul and wife Wanda Keckley of Edinburg, Va. She was preceded in death by three brothers: Matthew, John and Dan Keckley and one sister, Lois Slater.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Martinsburg, W.V. She was a 1931 graduate of St. John’s Academy, Petersburg, W.V. and of the School of Nursing of the Medical College of Virginia in 1935. She retired in 1977 after 30 years service as a staff nurse at the Veterans Administration Center at Martinsburg, W.V.
Funeral service for Mrs. Esther K. Mason will be Thursday, March 10, 2005 at 11 a.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church with Reverend Charles A. Fitzgerald officiating. Interment in Grandview Cemetery will be at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends at the church from 10 to 11 a.m.
